Description

First discovered in 1978 in Victoria, Australia, we’re not sure about the nomenclature of this bright-eyed hybrid beauty, but they got it right. Living up to her name, ‘Bright Eyes’ Camellia displays large and abundant single blooms with crepe-textured carmine rose petals surrounding a prominent column of bright yellow filaments. If you’re looking to add a bright and cheery presence to the garden this rare and floriferous beauty won’t disappoint!

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing in a spreading rounded mound to about 6 feet tall and maybe 7 to 8 feed wide, Bright Eyes Camellia is ideal for use as a specimen, grouping, hedge or background plant in partially shaded landscape and woodland borders. Also useful as espalier (trained to grow flat against a wall.) A fine addition to Camellia gardens, pink theme gardens, cottage gardens, cut flower gardens and woodland borders.

Suggested Spacing: 4 to 5 feet apart for solid hedge; 10 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

Camellia adapt well to various soil types however prefer a moist but well-drained acidic soil that is rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy soil is a slow killer. In general, Camellia grows and blooms better in partial shade with some shelter from the hot afternoon sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sunlight is perfect. All-day filtered sun is fine.
